Hot, dry weather changes how you should ride. Heat, sun, dust, and dry air affect your body, your tyres, and your chain, so a few adjustments make summer rides safer and more enjoyable, in Punjab and in any dry climate.
Ride early, drink early
Ride in the morning or evening when you can, and drink before you feel thirsty. Take more water than you think you need, and eat a little salt with food if you sweat heavily. Stop in shade, and do not push through dizziness, nausea, or confusion, because those are heat illness signs.
Protect skin, eyes, and head
Wear sunscreen, sunglasses, and light, breathable clothing. A helmet is still essential, even in heat, and light colours reflect more sun than dark ones. Take breaks in shade on long rides.
Look after the bike in dust
Dust dries chains and wears parts faster. Wipe the chain after dusty rides, lube it lightly, and check tyre pressure, because heat can change it. Clean air filters and seals on e-bikes and suspension more often in dusty conditions.
Plan for the conditions
Tell someone your route, carry a phone and extra water, and shorten the ride if the heat rises sharply. Riding well in heat is about pacing and planning, not toughness.
Q: How much water should I carry in hot weather?
A: Carry at least one large bottle for a short ride, and two or more for a long ride, plus a plan to refill. Drink small amounts often, not a large amount only at the end.
